Polynesian Composition
In this assignment, I had to create a composition from a Maori love poem.

Duration
The compositions tempo is at 80BPM and in 4/4. The simplistic rhythm in my composition is very similar to most Polynesian compositions. To make this similarity I used simple note values like crotchets, quavers and minums.

Structure
My composition followed the structure:
- Intro
- Verse
- Chorus

Pitch
My composition is in the key of C major. It uses I & V chords (C & G) to create a sense of tension and resolution in certain areas. The melodic contour of my composition has both ascending and descending patterns. It uses a stepwise movement to create a smooth contour. This corresponds with the Polynesian style, simple ascending and descending patterns, as well as using primary chords.

Texture
My composition has a moderately thin texture, with vocals, guitar and drums.
The texture is very similar to the Polynesion style, consisting of vocals, a chordal instrument and some percussion.

Tone Colour
The tone colour of my composition is warm, bright, smooth, sweet and percussive. This is due to the different instruments. Although this cannot be heard through the mp3 above, the live performance will acturatly represent this. The tone colour is again very similar to the polynesian style.

Dynamics and Expressive Techniques
The dynamics throughout the composition are at a constant mf. This is to make the composition sound clear and confident. This simplicity again replicates the polynesian style.
