Comparitive analysis

We didn't change a lot in our cover, so it's very similar to the original.

Texture

We only made a few changed to our texture. The original songs texture is mostly homophonic, except for the monophonic intro. Our song is also mostly homphonic, except for our outro which is only clapping and vocals. However our intro is also different from the original as we add instruments.

The texture of our song is also slightly thicker than the original as we have more instruments at the same time.

The original uses lead vocals, backing vocals, bass guitar and drums.

Our cover uses, lead vocals, backing vocals, violin, saxophone, electric guitar, bass guitar, cajon and tambourine.

Structure

We kept the structure in our cover the same as the original.

 - Intro

 - chorus

 - verse

 - pre chorus

 - chorus

 - verse

 - chorus

 - verse

 - bridge

 - pre-chorus

 - chorus

 - outro

Our outro however is different to the original as we just have acapella and clapping.

Pitch

We slightly changed our pitch up a semitone from C# to C to make it easier for the bass, guitar and violin to play.  It also put our cover into a nicer key to notate.

Both songs are sung by a female.

The melodic counter of both songs is also similar. In both melodic contours, most of the piece is a descending pattern except the first half of the pre-chorus, which is an ascending pattern. This creates a bit of contrast, and some melodic interest.

Tone colour

The greatest change between the original and our cover is the tone colour.

The tone colour of the original is very grand, sweet, and warm. The vocals in the original are also quite rustic and course.

In our cover the tone colour is clearer and brighter. Our vocals are also more refined and polished.

The most contrasting part in tone colour between both song is the intro. Our intro has vocals, drums, violin, saxophone, guitar and bass, while the original is purely vocals. This drastically alters the tone colour between the two songs.

Duration

The duration in our song is also very similar. Our cover has the same tempo as the original, 151 BPM. The Italian tempo name for this is Allegro. Both songs are also in common time, 4/4.

Dynamics and expressive techniques.

Our cover had similar dynamics to the original. We used soft and loud dynamics in the intro between the vocals and the chords. Other than the intro, both songs have a very smooth dynamic contour for the rest of the song.

We utilized, some expressive techniques during the intro including a tremolo on the violin, and growling in the lead vocals.
